Congratulations, King James…

(248th day, 117 more days to go)

Congratulations goes out to LeBron James and his Baby Mama, Savannah Brinson for getting engaged at a New Years Eve party.  Even though they have been together for 8 years and have two kids, it seems like Black Women have to wait for a long time before these Ballers will put a ring on it.  I know James is NOT the first dude to do this and he may not be the last.  I’m just making an observation because there are too many unwed mothers out there who will have several babies with their children’s father before getting married that’s IF they get a married at all.  Now that I have a child out of wedlock, I realize it wasn’t the right thing to do nor do I want my daughter to follow in my footsteps.  This Blog will hopefully inspire younger women to wait before having a baby and women who are already Mamas to make better decisions before having more children.  I didn’t have that many role models in my life and the women who were there were all single moms.  Maybe if they had said a few words to me about getting pregnant I would have at least been warned.

I think a lot of women in my position are afraid to speak to other women about this issue because let’s face it, women don’t listen to other women until it’s too late.  With over 24 million children living in single-parent households the time is now to discuss this with our children and the kids in our communities.

One thing I did notice is that women like Kloe Kardashian-Odom, Vanessa Bryant, or Adrienne Williams-Bosh didn’t have to wait too long to get a ring.  WHY do sistahs like me have to wait?  I bet if Black Women were cars most men will probably Lease us instead of buying us outright.

I’ve always been shy to voice my opinion about this topic but it’s time that I don’t.  I know that I’m probably giving another writer from a website that gets more traffic than mines a story idea but what the heck. (At least give a sistah some credit)

I know what I’ve written is harsh but it’s my reality that I’ve been living with my entire life.  Go back and read my post on my color complex and you’ll know why I feel this way.
